PAEPARD is a project that directly responds to issues raised at African Level as stated in FARA’s operational plan (2008-2012) such as improved knowledge management, better targeted capacity development and promotion of innovation platforms so that research is development oriented. PAEPARD aims at strengthening the capacities of non-research stakeholders to lead and compete for grants supporting agricultural research for development. PAEPARD aims at enhanced more equitable, more balanced, more demand-driven and mutually beneficial collaboration of Africa and Europe on ARD to attain the MDGs and will focus on more inclusive partnerships with non research stakeholders as civil society and private sector organizations in Europe and Africa.

PAEPARD II project is divided into 7 work packages (WP). WP1 and WP2 focus on mobilization and coordination of respectively European and African stakeholders. EAFF represents PAFO (constituting PROPAC, ROPPA and FARNPAN) in WP2. PAEPARD 11 general objective is to build joint African-European Multistakeholder partnerships in ARD contributing to achieving the MDGs. Implementing tools and strategies to improve partnerships between Europe and Africa in ARD field.

Activities under Work Package 2
Among the activities undertaken within the WP2 include:

  1. Identification and mapping of existing collaboration mechanisms of non-research stakeholders with emphasis on linking non-research to research stakeholders.
  2. Development of a mobilization strategy for farmer’s organization, civil society organizations and private sector organizations to engage in partnerships with European counterpart.
  3. Conduct internal consultation among farmer organizations, civil society organizations and private sector organizations to identify the participants to be engaged in the project. EAFF on behalf of PAFFO conducted an internal consultation which will help feed into the Work package 3 assessment of the African research and non research stakeholders through administration of a comprehensive questionnaire addressing various components of operationalization within the organizations.
  4. Conduct consultations with multiple stakeholders that would facilitate preparedness to partnership events
  5. Identify case studies and success/failure stories of African-European partnerships
